Course objectives

  • Strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in Minimal Access Surgery.
  • Apply safe and effective techniques for laparoscopic access, trocar placement, dissection, suturing, knot tying and stapling.
  • Develop hands on proficiency through training on live tissue.
  • Understand and apply advanced techniques in GI, hepatobiliary, hernia, colorectal and bariatric surgery.
  • Gain exposure to contemporary robotic and minimally invasive surgical approaches.
  • Observe and analyse operative techniques through live surgical demonstrations.
  • Recognise, prevent and manage common complications associated with Minimal Access Surgery.
  • Integrate current advances in minimally invasive and robotic surgery into clinical practice.
  • Assess their technical proficiency through structured practical training and, where applicable, the University Diploma proficiency assessment.

Educational methods

The course combines theoretical learning with intensive practical surgical training.

Didactic sessions
Focused lectures covering surgical principles, operative techniques, complications, emerging technologies and current trends in Minimal Access Surgery.

Surgical demonstrations
Participants observe operative procedures and gain insight into surgical decision making, technique and management of complex cases.

Experimental laboratory training
Four half days of hands on training on live tissue provide participants with practical experience in surgical access, dissection, suturing, tissue approximation, knot tying, stapling and advanced procedures.

Interactive learning
Case discussions, questions and answers, evaluation sessions and faculty interaction encourage active participation throughout the course.

Proficiency assessment
Participants applying for the Strasbourg University Diploma undergo the required practical proficiency assessment as part of the program.
