Course objectives

The course aims to provide surgeons with comprehensive, practical training in robotic bariatric surgery through a combination of expert discussions, pre recorded surgical demonstrations, and hands on sessions.

Participants will gain exposure to:

  • Surgical decision making and bariatric surgery algorithms for primary procedures
  • Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy, OAGB and RYGB
  • Revisional bariatric procedures and their surgical considerations
  • Management of complications in robotic bariatric surgery
  • Robotic console and patient cart functions
  • Docking, instrument exchange and robotic workflow
  • Robotic suturing, stapling and tissue approximation
  • Practical hands on experience in robotic bariatric procedures
  • Strategies for optimising and economising robotic bariatric surgery

This course is designed for surgeons who are interested in developing or advancing their expertise in robotic bariatric surgery.

  • Minimal access surgeons looking to expand into robotic bariatric procedures

Educational methods

The course follows an immersive, practice oriented learning approach combining:

  • Pre recorded surgical demonstrations covering primary and revisional bariatric procedures
  • Expert panel discussions on bariatric surgery algorithms, complications and management, and economics of robotic bariatric surgery
  • Hands on robotic training with practical familiarisation of the console and patient cart
  • Dry lab exercises covering joystick and control familiarisation, docking and instrument exchange
  • Suturing and tissue approximation exercises using harvested tissue
  • Hands on procedural training in robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy, OAGB revisional surgery and RYGB
  • Continuous evaluation and discussion of the previous day’s sessions to reinforce learning

Additional information

The Robotic Bariatric Surgery Course will be conducted from 07 to 09 October 2026 at IRCAD India, Indore.

Participants will train across four robotic platforms under one roof:

da Vinci | MedBot Toumai | SSI Mantra | CMR

The course is led by Dr. Mohit Bhandari and Dr. Andre Fernandes Teixeira, with Dr. Raj Palaniappan as course faculty.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course.

IRCAD India also offers on campus accommodation, dining facilities, complimentary Wi Fi, gym facilities, parking and other amenities for participants. The campus is approximately 20 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from the railway station
