The three-day program delivered a comprehensive progression from fundamentals to advanced colorectal surgery. It began with core operative training, covering laparoscopic sigmoidectomy, TME, and right colectomy, along with hands-on practice in ileocaecal resection, anastomosis, left sigmoid resection (Knight-Griffen), and vascular approaches. It then advanced into complex procedures, including transverse colectomy with total mesocolic excision, splenic flexure tumor management, and rectal surgeries such as laparoscopic TME, TEM, and TaTME, with continued focus on refining anastomosis techniques. The final phase emphasized outcomes and future-ready surgery, addressing complication management, TaTME vs laparoscopic TME, robotic approaches, and emerging concepts like fluorescence imaging, AI-driven navigation, 3D planning, ERAS protocols, and “watch & wait” strategies through expert-led discussions and case-based decision-making.
Overall, the course successfully integrated structured teaching, real-time surgical exposure, and hands-on practice, equipping participants with enhanced skills, clinical confidence, and a forward-looking approach to colorectal surgery.
